Budgets! You wait all year for one and then two come along at once.

Why do we need another Budget on Wednesday 8th July?

George Osborne loves his Budgets. Its his big day of the year. He gets to hold up his red case (with the speech inside) and read his speech to the House of Commons and everyone comes to listen.

The red box weighs 3 kg, is made from pine, covered in rams’ leather and lined with lead and black satin. If dropped at sea, therefore, they sink and are unlikely to be captured. The first budget red box was made for William Gladstone in 1860 and was used by most Chancellors until George Osborne used it in 2010. He then had it put away safely.  (It was falling apart) and he had a new one made (£700)

The EU, should we stay or should we go?

Within the next couple of years David Cameron has committed the UK to an “In Out Referendum” on continued EU membership.  Many students in both main school and the sixth form will need to understand the implications for business, for the economy and for themselves of this momentous decision. The link below takes you to a very clear page of information to help. If you are already 16 or 17 you may well get a vote.
